On Friday, October 30 the Ridgefield Fire Department received a 911 call reporting an injured worker on the roof of Boehringer Pharmaceutical Company. Engine 2 was the first arriving unit and found the patient approximately 30 feet off the ground. Medic 1, Engine 1, and Truck 8 assisted Engine 2 build a 4:1 haul system to safely extricate the patient from the roof. The worker lost his footing coming down a set of stairs and fell about five feet. He lay on the roof of a one-story building, in severe pain and unable to move, said Fire Chief Heather Burford. The Ridgefield Fire Department sent an ambulance and a ladder truck to the scene around 4:30 p.m. H"e was quickly splinted, placed on a board and stabilized on the roof," said Chief Burford. "We brought the ladder truck in and rigged up a rope system to remove him off the roof." The worker was taken to Danbury Hospital for treatment. Chief Burford said the department has recently placed a Technical Rescue Team in service and thanks to their training and equipment, we were able to safely mitigate this incident and and move the patient in the most comfortable manner possible. She said department personnel did a fantastic job.
